Daughters of the Diaspora

Communal self knowledge is the key to mental health.  For that reason, one of the prime purposes of this 15-week program is to create a paradigm shift in the way African American girls view themselves, and each other.  The goal is to influence their consciousness, their character, and their culture.  While we plan to expand this into a full Rites-of-Passage program, our first target group will be pre-teens ages 10-13...those labeled "at-risk" AND those "at-promise."  Within this circle of Sisterhood, some of our topics include: - Healthy Friendships, Bullying, and Conflict Resolution - Morals & Values - Respecting Roles in the Community (parents, elders, etc.) - Body Image: Loving Your Self from Crown to Ground
